What is Content Curation?
Content Curation is the act of discovering, gathering, and presenting digital content surrounding researching specific subject matter. Content curation is now becoming a marketing staple for many companies with a successful online presence (Tilt.com, 2022).
After researching how to develop a professional ePortfolio, I have learned that nowadays, it is essential to have one in a highly competitive job market. EPortfolios can give professionals a competitive advantage by highlighting a person’s unique knowledge and skills and providing evidence for employers. I have decided to use Wix for my digital content curation and ePortfolio. Overall, I like the Wix templates, and so far, the site seems that it will not be difficulchallengingt to navigate. I started to look at other professional portfolios for inspiration and YouTube videos about Wix tools. I plan on learning about Diigo.
My Social Media Plan
I do not post my professional opinion on social media because people might not understand or like what I say. I often come across viral trending posts on social media. These posts involve people who sometimes know or do not know they are being recorded. I have read stories about people’s lives being negatively affected on a personal and professional level after being featured in viral social media posts. With that said,d I tend to be a private person, especially over the last four years. I pay close attention to how I act or speak in public. I do not post pictures of my friends or family on the internet. Protecting my professionalism, privacy, reputation, and confidentiality are essential. I abide by my work’s policy on social media use when conducting myself professionally and respectfully, which would not go against the mission and core values of the organization. I plan to keep a LinkedIn page, and Twitter account for professional use and private and Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook accounts with high privacy settings to view content.
The International Nurse Regulator Collaborative Position Statement on the Common Expectations for Nurses for Social Media Use
The International Nurse Regulator Collaborative (INRC) is a collaboration between nursing regulatory organizations worldwide. It involves nine member organizations that promote research, share intelligence, and influences policy development to protect the health and safety of the public (International Nurse Regulator Collaborative, 2016). The nine organizations are:
· College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
· Singapore Nursing Board (International Nurse Regulator Collaborative, 2016)
INRC has a position statement about common expectations for nurses regarding using social media. INRC believes that nurse regulators draw upon their professional code of conduct and standards of practice to guide how nurses should use social media. The INRC position statement only serves to inform nurses of new regulations and trends being discussed worldwide. The College of Nurses of Ontario does not have a specific standard of practice when it comes to how nurses should conduct themselves on social media (International Nurse Regulator Collaborative, 2016)
INRC’s common expectations for nurses include:
- Benefits and Risks
- Professional image
- Confidentiality
- Privacy
- Boundaries
- Expectations
- Integrity
- Employer policies
- Accountability (International Nurse Regulator Collaborative, 2016)
INRC’s 6 ‘Ps of Social Media Use
Professional — Act professionally always
Positive — Keep posts positive
Patient/Person-free — Keep posts patient or person free
Protect yourself — Protect your professionalism, your reputation, and yourself
Privacy — Keep your personal and professional life separate, respect the privacy of others
Pause before you post — Consider implications; avoid posting in haste or anger (International Nurse Regulator Collaborative, 2016)
Curation of Health Information Audit
What is your first step when you need information? Do you ask someone? Do you search somewhere?
When I need information at work, I first will look at the internal company website and SharePoint folders. If I cannot find the news, I will ask a more seasoned team member or the team lead if they know what I am looking for. I often ask them to send me the link to the reference document in a SharePoint shared folder. Sometimes I will contact someone in a specific department on Teams chat or reach out to my District Manager. I reference the medication product monographs for the three biological medications or work with. I also reach out to third-party organizations and MDs if I need information. Sometimes I go to MD office sites to access their electronic medical record system to gather information.
I look for information on reputable news outlets'; and websites; I read scholarly journals, health publications, and press releases; I watch multiple YouTube videos; and I google top searches/latest news for information.
How good is the information you find? How do you know the quality of this information?
The information I find is good at my work because I can often refer to a reference document developed and approved by upper management, the pharmaceutical company, and a federal/provincial government website.
What do you do when you find helpful information? Where do you keep it? Is it easy to retrieve?
When I find helpful information, I will often save it in a relevant folder on my desktop. For reputable websites, I will bookmark them to my favorites list so I can easily access them. I also keep electronic post-it notes on my desktop. When I get the information emailed, I will save it to a relevant email folder. If the information is relevant to a patient or MD, I will add it to the client management system.
What tools do you use?
I use desktop folders, handheld folders/notebooks, electronic bookmarks, electronic post-it notes, snippet screenshots and tools, a client management system, email, fax, and reputable websites.
